3G auction expected in December

Turkey’s Telecommunications Board is likely to hold a 3G auction in December, according to reports from Reuters which cite ‘sources close to the matter’. The government first held an auction for three 3G licences last year but the sale was annulled when just one firm – the country’s largest mobile operator, Turkcell – entered a bid. Mobile number portability is due to be implemented next month and this should remove one of the factors which prevented operators bidding in the previous auction.
