Commentary: China’s internal affairs brook no interference

BEIJING, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) — The U.S. House of Representatives’ passing of the so-called Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act of 2019 is a gross interference in China’s internal affairs.

Ignoring the truth and calling white black, the so-called bill was a full revelation of the U.S. anti-China forces’ political calculations, which attempt to contain China’s development by playing the “Hong Kong card.”

Hong Kong belongs to China. Hong Kong affairs are purely China’s internal affairs and brook no interference from any foreign forces.

The U.S. House of Representatives and some of its members seriously violated the basic principles of international laws and basic norms governing international relations, exposing their double standard and hypocrisy on human rights and democracy.

U.S. anti-China forces and politicians did not say a word to condemn but rather dressed up and supported the violence of rioters in Hong Kong.

These U.S. moves make the political plot of the U.S. anti-China forces more apparent to the world. They never care about the security and wellbeing of Hong Kong residents but instead intend to create chaos in Hong Kong to contain China.

The United States has more than 80,000 nationals, more than 1,300 enterprises and huge amounts of investment in Hong Kong. If Hong Kong’s prosperity and stability are compromised, not only Chinese but also U.S. interests will be undermined.

We urge certain people in the U.S. Congress to take their hands off China’s Hong Kong, immediately halt the ensuing legislation process of the bill and stop going further along the wrong path of interfering in China’s internal affairs and undermining China-U.S. relations.

China’s strong will and resolution in safeguarding national sovereignty, security and development interests and maintaining Hong Kong prosperity and stability shall never be underestimated.
