Nine enter race for Telsim

Seven foreign telcos and two domestic companies have submitted bids to the Turkish Saving Deposits Insurance Fund (TMSF) for control of Turkish wireless operator Telsim. Vodafone, Etisalat, France Telecom, Russia’s Sistema, Orascom, MTC of Kuwait and UAE-based Emaar were named as the overseas bidders, while Koc Holding and media group Dogan represented the local interest. Telenor opted not to enter the process. Bids will be opened on the 13th December, with offers expected to top USD2.8 billion.
