Privatisation on the cards for Turkish Cypriot telecoms
As reported in The Cyprus Mail, quoting a local Turkish-language newspaper, Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Kucuk has announced that the privatisation of the fixed telecoms services in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (formally recognised by Turkey alone), is ‘on the agenda.’ Seeking public support for his plan, Kucuk said selling off telecoms facilities would reduce the costs of calls to the consumer. Current prices in the northern part of the island under Turkish Cypriot control are reportedly several times higher than for equivalent services in the south provided by the Republic of Cyprus’ state-owned incumbent operator, Cyta.
