17 Jul 2012

Turk Telekom (TT) has reported revenues of TRY3.182 billion (USD1.756 billion) for the three months ended 30 June 2012, up 3% compared to TRY2.968 billion in the same period a year ago. Operating profit for the second quarter dropped from TRY867 million to TRY840 million year-on-year, while TT reported net income of TRY630 million, up 24% y-o-y, from TRY506 million in 2Q11. CAPEX for April–June increased to TRY677 million. The telco credits the improved figures to solid growth from its broadband and wireless units, with mobile arm Avea demonstrating ‘strong growth and improved profitability despite continued harsh market conditions’.

In operational terms, TT’s broadband customer base rose to seven million by 1 July 2012, up 3.6% y-o-y. In contrast, fixed PSTN lines dropped 6.1% to 14.7 million. Meanwhile, Avea saw its subscriber base grow 6.3% over the twelve-month period to 13.0 million; of which, 7.2 million were on pre-paid plans. Post-paid subscribers are driving growth however, increasing by 7.8% on an annualised basis, to 5.8 million.
