
Turkcell revenues boosted 18.3% in Q2
Turkish telecoms group Turkcell has posted an 18.3% year-on-year rise in group revenues to TRY5.105 billion (USD1.053 billion) in Q2 2018 (2Q17: TRY4.316 billion), whilst EBITDA shot up 46.5% to TRY2.134 billion, although net income was 41.0% lower y-o-y at TRY415 million. Domestic revenues grew by 15.8% to TRY4.404 billion in April-June 2018 (2Q17: TRY3.803 billion), accounting for 86% of total group turnover and including TRY2.873 billion ‘data and digital services’ revenue (up 15.8%). Total subscribers in Turkey increased 3.3% year-on-year to 36.6 million at end-June 2018, including mobile, fixed broadband, IPTV and M2M.
Elsewhere, Turkcell has launched ‘Dronecell’, Turkey’s first aerial base station, manufactured using domestic technology, which it says is capable of providing 4.5G service from a height of 120 metres across an area of five square kilometres, adding that the drone-mounted cell could play a crucial role in providing uninterrupted communication, especially in the event of emergencies and natural disasters.
