Turkcell, Turk Telekom in favour of sharing infrastructure

29 Jul 2009

Following comments from Turk Telekom CEO Paul Doany recommending that Turkey’s mobile operators reduce deployment costs by sharing 3G infrastructure, Turkcell has announced that it supports the proposal. According to Reuters, Turkcell CEO Sureyya Ciliv has said that the company is open to the idea which would boost network coverage for all three competitors, although it is still in talks with its rivals on the matter and no agreement has yet been reached. Turkey’s three GSM operators, Turkcell, Vodafone and Turk Telekom’s mobile subsidiary Avea, are preparing to launch 3G services on 30 July having been awarded the country’s first next generation concessions in December 2008.
