Turkcell wants MNP halted

11 Apr 2007

Turkey’s largest mobile operator, Turkcell, has filed a lawsuit calling for the cancellation of mobile number portability (MNP) which was introduced at the start of this year. The firm says the current MNP system is not working in the best interest of consumers and it is still waiting for the allocation of number blocks for which it is paying 15% of its revenues each month, reports Istanbul’s English-language daily, Today’s Zaman. Turkcell had 31.8 million subscribers and a 60.5% market share at the end of 2006, according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database.
